TROY (WWJ) -- A Warren man is jailed on multiple felony charges in Oakland County, after police say he was caught stealing catalytic converters from cars.

According to the Troy Police Department, officers were watching the man after he was identified by detectives as a suspect in thefts from multiple vehicles in Troy.

Just before 5:30 a.m. last Friday, July 28, officers with the Troy PD caught the suspect in the act as he was stealing catalytic converters in the 2300 block of Coolidge Hwy., police said.

Detectives then tried to make an arrest at 13 Mile Rd. and Southfield Rd., boxing in the suspect's vehicle with patrol cars.

The suspect refused to follow commands, police said, and instead accelerated forward, ramming the police vehicle in front of him.

Police said the suspect was then removed from his vehicle and taken into custody by detectives, who found a handgun on the passenger seat.

No injuries were reported.

The suspect was arrested and taken to the Troy Police lockup. He has since been charged with the following: Two counts of Larceny from a Motor Vehicle, Weapons-Firearms-Possession by Felon, Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Felony Police Officer Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing, and Driving while License Suspended.

His name was not immediately released.
