WARREN (WWJ) — A Warren police officer is fighting for his life after falling from a tree stand while hunting in Mid-Michigan last weekend.

Warren police officials say officer Nick Kott “was doing what he loved most: hunting with his family” near Midland when he had a “sudden, devastating fall.”

That left him critically injured and unable to call for help for several hours. Family members eventually found him and he was rushed to Midland Hospital.

Due to the severity of his injuries, Kott was airlifted to University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, where he remains in critical condition in the Neurological ICU, on a ventilator with no feeling from the neck down.

His wife, Holli, and their 7-year-old son, along with fellow officers have been by his side at the hospital.

Family members have started a GoFundMe account to help Kott’s family with medical bills in the wake of the incident. As of 3:30 p.m. Thursday, nearly $30,000 of the page’s $40,000 goal had been raised.

“We'd like to ensure Nick is able to be provided with the best possible care for as long as he will need, and that Holli and Jack do not experience hardship so that they can devote their full attention to Nick and shower him with all of the love and support he will need during his recovery,” the

Donations can also be sent to his wife via Venmo at @Holli-Kott.
