Officials say the water main break occurred sometime Tuesday morning at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Maple Road. All traffic lanes remain closed at that intersection while crews work to repair the break. Motorists are being told to find an alternate route.
The city issued a boil water advisory for the area bounded by Jackson, Maple, Pauline, West Liberty, Dicken Woods area, I-94, including the Westgate shopping area. A map of the areas affected can be found on the city's website.
Authorities say there is no evidence of contamination of the water system, but the city is issuing the alert as a precautionary measure until further notice.
Under a boil water advisory, residents should boil water for at least one minute and allow it to cool in a covered container. Bottled water can be used as an alternative.
