Wayne County dive team recovers body of man missing in the Detroit River

WYANDOTTE (WWJ) -- The Coast Guard has recovered the body a boater who went missing on the Detroit River.

Coast Guard officials tell WWJ that the man was with two others on a dinghy about 5:00 Friday morning.

They were trying to tie the boat to a secure facility at the BASF property off Biddle Avenue in Wyandotte.

The man fell out of the dinghy as the other two were trying to climb a fence. They threw life jackets into the water, but the man never resurfaced.

WWJ's Charlie Langton was on the scene this morning, where the Coast Guard was using thermal imaging to try to locate the man in the water.

The Wayne County dive team recovered the man's body just before 8:30 a.m.

The incident remains under investigation by police.
