(WWJ) A Wayne County judge got on some trouble when she brought a loaded gun to Detroit Metro Airport in Romulus last weekend.

Airport officials said TSA agents found a loaded gun inside Judge Cylenthia Miller's purse as she tried to pass through security. According to reports, it's not yet clear whether the .380 caliber Smith and Wesson was registered, but the judge's attorney said his client is a valid CPL holder.

A spokesperson for Wayne County Airport Authority confirmed to WWJ Newsradio 950 that Miller was issued a citation for a misdemeanor offense, but was released on Saturday.

In the U.S., it is legal to pack unloaded firearms in a locked hard-sided container in checked bags only, and travelers must declare any firearms when checking their luggage. You cannot legally bring a gun into the cabin of the plane in your purse or carryon bag, regardless of a CPL.

Miller has been a judge in Detroit since 2006. spending thirteen years on the bench at 36th District Court. Her last five years have been spent at Third Circuit Court, where she presides over the family court.
