JACKSON COUNTY (WWJ) -- A Wayne County man was found dead in a river hours after his friend reported him missing.
Police said at about 6:57 p.m. on Friday, deputies from the Jackson County Sherriff's Office responded to a missing person report at a boat launch on Dixon Road in Rives Township.
According to MLive, a man told authorities that he couldn't find his friend after taking a nap in his car at the boat launch.
He told police that the last time he saw his friend he was sitting on a large rock near the river.
Deputies and K-9 units searched the area around the boat launch -- but didn't find anything.
Later, MLive reports that police were later to contact a nearby Dixon Road resident who was willing to transport deputies down the river in his boat.
At about 8:30 p.m., the body of 71-year-old Michael John Rudnianin was found in the river, police said.
An autopsy was performed, with nothing suspicious being noted by the medical examiner, police said.
Lab results to determine the exact cause of Rudnianin’s death are still pending.
