Wayne County Treasurer's Office in Detroit closes due to 'credible' threats

(WWJ) The Wayne County Treasurer's Office in Detroit closed early on Friday, because of what officials are calling "credible information" on threats.

Officials said they made the decision to protect staff.

No one has been hurt.

And investigation into the treats is ongoing. No other information is being provided at this time

The threat came as a large crowd protested outside of the TCF Center downtown, where ballots were counted after Election Day. Backers of President Donald Trump came to the city from to rally in support of unsubstantiated claims that the election in Michigan was "stolen" from Trump.

It's not clear if the protest is linked to the threat.

Detroit police, meanwhile, "are in a constant state of readiness" in the downtown area, case things any violent threats arise, according to Chief James Craig.

Early in the afternoon, Craig while police had intelligence that armed militia groups from other area planned to descend on Detroit on Friday, said the protest has been peaceful so far.
