MORLEY (WWJ) -- Sheriff's deputies and local first responders pulled a West Michigan fisherman from a frozen lake Sunday after he fell through thin ice.
Around 2:45 p.m. on Mar. 5, the Mecosta County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene of a water rescue at Latimer Park in the Village of Morley -- located 15 miles south of Big Rapids.
A 43-year-old Stanwood man was out ice fishing and broke through the lake's frozen surface.
The 911 caller was a local resident who caught sight of the fisherman struggling in the water and heard him yelling for help.
Members of the rescue crew crawled about 100 feet across the fragile layer of ice. After securing the man, they were pulled back to shore.
Along with the Sheriff's department, Mecosta County EMS and Meceola Central Dispatch also assisted the Morley Fire/Rescue team.
There is currently no word on the man's condition or how long he was in the water before first responders arrived.
