WESTLAND (WWJ) — Charges have been filed against a Westland man accused of firing shots at his wife before barricading himself inside their home.
Kevin Butler, 61, was arraigned Tuesday, two days after a roughly eight-hour standoff with Westland police.
Around 3:30 p.m. Sunday Westland police officers were called to a home on Cherry Hill Road, near Wayne and Ford Roads after getting reports of shots fired.
When officers showed up they learned the 55-year-old woman was able to escape the home unharmed after he fired a gun at her, but Butler was still inside. She was not hit by the gunfire, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
With a perimeter set up around the house and the Western Wayne Tactical Response Unit on-scene, authorities tried unsuccessfully to negotiate with Butler.
But after refusing to surrender for eight hours, officers carried out tactical operation, entering the home and arresting Butler without incident, according to the Westland Police Department.
Butler has been charged with discharge of a firearm in or at a building, felonious assault, resisting and obstructing police, domestic violence and two counts of felony firearm.
Bond was set at $300,000 and Butler was ordered to wear a GPS tether. His next court date has been scheduled for March 14.
