(WWJ) The U.S. Department of Defense and many members of Michigan's congressional delegation on Sunday confirmed that an unidentified object was shot down over Lake Huron.

Here's what we know, and don't know, so far about this UFO:

The slow-moving object was shot down by a US Air Force F-16 fighter jet from around 20,000 ft. over Lake Huron at 2:42 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2023.

The object was first tracked over land in Montana, then in Wisconsin, and then in Michigan's eastern Upper Peninsula.

The object was described by defense officials as an unmanned "octagonal structure" with "potential surveillance capabilities."

Officials say it's not yet clear where it came from, and investigators don't know yet whether it came from another country or a private enterprise.

Air Force officials say they're still unsure how this object stayed aloft, as its propulsion systems are yet unknown. It has not been confirmed whether it was a balloon.

A missile was used to shoot the object down, as it was determined it could could not be shot down with guns due to its small size.

Officials are searching for the wreckage, which could be in U.S. or Canadian waters.

The object did not pose a military threat, defense officials said, but there were concerns that it could be a hazard to commercial aircraft due to its altitude and path.

Alien activity was not immediately ruled out, according to Air Force General Glen VanHerck Sunday evening. However, one U.S. defense official quoted by NBC News said there is "no indication of aliens or extraterrestrial activity with these recent take downs."

The US Air Force has now downed four objects in eight days; including this one and two over Alaska and Canada on Friday and Saturday. What officials say was a Chinese spy balloon was shot down over South Carolina on Feb. 4.
