Wind advisory in effect until Saturday afternoon; Gusts expected to reach 50 mph

(WWJ) As temperatures continue to fluctuate, another wind advisory has been issued for all of southeast Michigan, calling for 40 to 50 mile-per-hour gusts.

The wind advisory starts at 1 a.m. Saturday morning and will last until 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Residents can expect southwest winds overnight, turning to west winds around sunrise. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), winds will be moving at 20 to 25 miles per hour with gusts of 40 and 50 miles per hour.

The worst of the gales are forecasted to occur between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m.

To prepare, Metro Detroiters should secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, decorations and other objects. Loose items are liable to blow away, break or cause other damage.

Park cars and trucks in driveways or garages to protect them from falling tree branches and debris.

Taking precautions for power outages is also recommended.

Anyone driving during the wind advisory should use extra caution on the roads, especially those operating semi-trucks and commercial vehicles or hauling trailers.

The full list of counties affected by the wind advisory includes Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Washtenaw, Lenawee, Livingston, St. Clair, Lapeer, Genesee, Shiawassee, Sanilac, Tuscola, Saginaw, Huron, Bay and Midland.

Accuweather Meteorologist Brian Thompson reports an increasingly windy Friday night with some late rain showers and temperatures in the mid-40s.

Saturday starts cloudy with some sun breaking in the afternoon.

In addition to the wind advisory, weather conditions are also expected to get colder, dropping to a low of 22 degrees by Saturday night. According to Accuweather, the ReelFeel Temperatures will be in the teens.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will provide a reprieve, with the forecast calling for temperatures in the mid-40s. Sunday will be sunny, but clouds will move back in by Tuesday.
