(WWJ) – While West Michigan is getting its first dose of winter weather, temperatures are dropping here in Metro Detroit.
Southeast Michigan may not be getting the snow they're seeing on the west side of the state, but high temps across the area are struggling to reach 40 degrees on Sunday.
Temperatures are expected to dip into the low 20s and even into the teens in some suburbs overnight, according to AccuWeather meteorologist John Feerick.
While some light snow flurries were expected across the area on Sunday, Feerick says Metro Detroit could be seeing a little more than that by the midweek.
"Mostly cloudy for Tuesday. Dry to start, but we'll see some rain and wet snow in the afternoon, probably ends as all snow in the evening," Feerick said.
The National Weather Service in Detroit projects there could be minor accumulations up to an inch on Tuesday evening, while more flurries are expected on Wednesday.
That forecast isn't anything like they saw along the shores of Lake Michigan over the weekend. The NWS reports Covert, in the southwestern part of the state, saw 7.5 inches, while other cities saw 5 inches.
