INGHAM COUNTY (WWJ) - A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a 75-year-old man on Halloween night in Ingham County -- and troopers are so far holding the weather responsible.
According to Michigan State Police, troopers from the Lansing Post were out at the Mobil Gas Station on M-52 in Leroy Township when they heard a traffic crash in the area.
They immediately investigated and found a single-vehicle had wrecked on westbound I-96 near the M-52 highway exit. The 75-year-old male driver from Lansing -- also the lone passenger in the vehicle -- was discovered unresponsive.
The man was extracted from the vehicle where first responders attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers said winter-like weather blowing through the area appears to be a factor in the crash, while drugs or alcohol do not.
The man was also not wearing a seatbelt.
The westbound lanes of I-96 were forced to close down for roughly four hours as troopers investigated the crash.
MSP was assisted by Ingham County Sheriff Deputies, Williamston Police Department and the Northeast Ingham Emergency Service Authority (NIES).
