WARREN (WWJ) -- A motorcyclist is dead after police say he crashed into a pickup truck along 12 Mile Road in Warren on Thursday.

Warren Police were asking drivers to avoid the area, as 12 Mile was expected to be closed for several hours for the on-scene investigation.

Police said Warren PD officers and fire units responded to the scene shortly after 7:30 a.m., at 12 Mile and Imperial.

They found a seriously injured motorcyclist who was rushed to a local hospital where he later died.

A preliminary investigation found the motorcyclist was headed westbound on 12 Mile from Hoover when he slammed into a Chevy pickup truck.

According to police, several witnesses reported that the motorcyclist was "driving at high speeds and weaving in and out of traffic," just before the crash. Witnesses began CPR and started first aid on the man, before EMS arrived.

The Chevy driver wasn't injured, police said, and is cooperating with investigators.

Police said alcohol or drugs are not suspected for the Chevy driver, but it's not yet clear if the motorcyclist was under the influence with results of an autopsy still pending,

The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet. Other details about him, including his name and age, are not being released at this time.
