LIVONIA (WWJ) -- A Genesee County woman accused of hitting a Detroit woman and her twin toddlers in Livonia, killing one of the children, was not supposed to be driving.

Tammy Sandoval, 55, was arraigned Wednesday morning on a total of six charges: One count of Operating While License Suspended, Revoked, or Denied – Causing Death; two counts of Operating While License Suspended, Revoked, or Denied – Causing Serious Injury; one count of Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident While At Fault – Causing Death, and two counts of Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident – Causing Serious Impairment.

Officials said Sandoval was driving on a suspended license at the time, as a result of past injury-related driving incidents.

This tragic crash happened at around 10:45 p.m. last Sunday along Merriman Rd. near Lyndon, not far from the site of the Livonia Spree fireworks show.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says Sandoval fled the scene after hitting 28-year-old Tia Robinson and her 3-year-old twins, Khalil and Khloe, who were on foot. All three pedestrians were rushed to a hospital where Khalil died of his injuries.

Sandoval, a Mount Morris resident, was arrested following an investigation by the Livonia Police Department.

Sandoval was arraigned Thursday morning in 16th District Court and was given a $600,000 cash/surety bond, no 10%. She stood mute, and a not guilty plea was entered on her behalf.

Her next court date is a Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for July 10, to be followed by Preliminary Examination set for July 17.

Khloe Robinson has since been treated and released from the hospital. Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Brian Craigo said the mother remains in critical condition.

"Tia continues to fight for her life and has undergone extensive surgeries to relieve severe head trauma and swelling on her brain, removing portions of her skull," Craigo said. "So, she continues to fight for her life in terms of these very serious injuries."

A prayer vigil for the Robinson family is planned at the site of the crash on Saturday, July 5, at 7 p.m.
