MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) – A Mount Clemens woman is facing charges of reckless driving after crashing her car into the Macomb County Jail building last week.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office on Monday released video of the incident showing a 2017 Chevy Cruze flying off the road and into the building.
Officials say the woman, whose name was not released, was initially driving north of Elizabeth, just north of Groesbeck when she went up a curb, hit a tension wire and struck a tree.
The car then continued through the jail's barbed wire chain linked fence and hit the building, where it came to rest.
The woman told deputies that her brakes failed on her vehicle. She was taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital by Medstar Ambulance.
She showed no signs of intoxication or being under the influence of narcotics, according to the sheriff's office. She was later released from the hospital with minor injuries.
She is being charged with reckless driving and driving without insurance, according to the sheriff's office.
