WASHTENAW COUNTY (WWJ) - A Dearborn woman is in critical condition after crashing into her friend's motorcycle while driving her own in Saline.
It happened in Washtenaw County, south of Ann Arbor. Saline Police were called to the scene at Austin and Austin Drive on reports of a motorcycle crash with injuries on Thursday at 10:28 p.m.
The 61-year-old woman and her 51-year-old male friend from Ypsilanti were driving eastbound on Austin, each on their own motorcycles. The woman struck the rear saddlebag of the man's bike, lost control, crossed the center lane, hit a curb and was thrown from her motorcycle.
Saline Area Fire and Huron Valley Ambulance (HVA) arrived on scene. HVA took the woman to a hospital where she was listed in critical condition.
The man was arrested for suspected operating while impaired. Police are awaiting blood results before submitting for charges on the suspected impaired driving.
Michigan State Police also responded with a trained accident investigator due to the severity of the woman's injuries.
Neither driver was wearing a helmet.
Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
