DETROIT (WWJ) -- One person is dead after a double shooting Wednesday night on Detroit's east side.
Police said the victim was a mother who intervened in an argument at around 8 p.m. on Runyon Street, between Outer Drive and Hoover. Officers responded to a Shotspotter alert, and were on scene within two minutes, according to Detroit Police Commander John Svec.
The officers discovered two people were shot, and both were taken to a hospital where a woman died from her injuries.
Svec told reporters that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between people who knew each other.
"This is an known associated. They got in an argument, it escalated, he pulled a gun and the mother tried to intervene and deescalate, at which time he opened fire and fatally wounded her," Svec said.
Police do not have a suspect in custody, and no details about the shooter have been released.
