TROY (WWJ) -- The woman who led Troy police on a multi-county chase in a stolen Tesla last week got the car by paying a man $60.
According to officials, the man and the suspect, 20-year-old Areyon Niley McKay, had just met earlier in the day on Oct. 18 when they went to the dealership in Troy.

The man told workers he would be the one test driving the Tesla Model Y, and McKay reportedly said she would not be operating the vehicle.
After the 30 minute test drive, the man returned to the dealership without the vehicle, saying that McKay had taken it.
The man explained that McKay had paid him $60 to rent the Tesla for her so she could test drive it, because she doesn't have a driver's license. Towards the end of the test drive, she got into the driver’s seat and took off.
Employees at the dealership then activated the vehicle’s onboard tracking and called police.
Michigan State Police troopers first located her on I-75, exiting on Rochester Road and pursued the vehicle through Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties.
Her joyride came to an end when authorities employed a PIT maneuver in the area of I-94 and Vernier Road in Harper Woods, at which time she was arrested.
McKay was arraigned last week on charges of fleeing to elude, unlawful driving away in a motor vehicle, furnishing false information to a police officer, and having an altered driver's license.
