(WWJ) A 33-year-old mother was killed on Sunday when she was hit by a vehicle at the Silver Lake State Park sand dunes in West Michigan.

The Oceana County Sheriff's Office said the woman and her family were standing outside their vehicle watching the racing at the park's drag strip, just before noon, when a man lost control of his Jeep, veered off the strip and crashed into the family's vehicle.

Sheriff's officials said the mother was able to push her 2-year old daughter out of the way, but the mom was hit by the Jeep.

Bystanders and first responders tried without success to save the woman, who has been identified as Kadie Price, of Pierson, Michigan.

Officials said it does appear that Price saved her child's life.
