CENTERLINE (WWJ) A woman who pled no contest to crashing into a Centerline home, seriously injuring a young girl, was sentenced to jail time.
Caris Wade, 21, of Detroit pled no contest to two 5-year felony counts: Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment of a Body Function, and Failure to Stop at a Scene Of An Accident Resulting in Serious Impairment or Death.
Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Joseph Toia sentenced her to 290 days in jail with credit for 65 days already served.
Wade is accused of crashing her car into the bedroom of a Centerline home, where two young sisters slept, on October 13, 2025, shortly before 3 a.m. According to Macomb County prosecutors, a 9-year-old girl suffered "serious bodily injuries." Her 22-month-old sister was not hurt.
Prosecutors said, after crashing into the house, Wade ran away. Warren Police arrested her a short time later
In addition to jail time, Wade must complete 360 hours of community service. Her sentence requires her to remain under probation for three years, including mandatory substance abuse treatment and counseling.
The judge also prohibited Wade from having contact with the victim and her family, and from going within 500 feet from the victim's home and school.
He also emphasized his intention to closely monitor Wade's compliance, saying that any violation could result in a five-year prison sentence.
"This sentence holds the defendant accountable while emphasizing rehabilitation and community safety," said Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido. "I hope she takes full advantage of the opportunity Toia has given her."
