Police searching for driver who hit, killed woman walking on the Lodge Freeway

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle that hit and killed a woman who was walking on the Lodge Freeway, early Friday morning.


According to Michigan State Police, several drivers called 911 at around 2:30 a.m. and told police about seeing the woman, who was walking on the southbound freeway (M-10), near Clairmount in Detroit.

When troopers arrived, they spotted the woman on the ground with several people trying to help.

She was pronounced dead by EMS at the scene.

MSP said the driver who hit the woman did not pull over. Now they're looking for the driver.

“Troopers are currently using technology that is available in the area to identify the vehicle involved," said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw, in a statement. “The freeway has been reopened and we are asking for anyone who witnessed the crash and has not been interviewed to contact the Metro South Post."

There is no description of the suspect vehicle or the driver at this time.
