Police searching for suspects in white Jeep after woman with three kids in the car says someone shot at them on I-96

DETROIT (WWJ) -- An investigation is ongoing after someone allegedly shot at an Inkster woman and her children on the freeway in Detroit Sunday night.

Michigan State Police said the 32-year-old woman called 911 at around 9:15 p.m. as she wad driving on I-96 westbound near Greenfield Road.

The woman said she was in the left lane, with her three kids in the car, when a white Jeep Grand Cherokee pulled up beside them. She said passenger in the Jeep then reached across the driver and shot a gun at the woman's vehicle. She sped up to get away, while the Jeep exited the freeway onto Greenfield.

There were no injuries and no damage done to the car, according to MSP.

MSP said the woman was unable to offer a description of the suspects.

Police closed the freeway to for the investigation Sunday night, using a K9 team to search for evidence, but all lanes have since reopened.

“Troopers are continuing their investigation and determine what occurred, said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw. “If anyone witnessed this incident, we are asking them to contact the Metro South Post at 734-287-5000 or Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP.”
