DETROIT (WWJ) -- Charges are expected to be filed against a man accused of driving drunk, and in the wrong direction on a local freeway over the weekend.
According to Michigan State Police, this happened early Sunday morning in the southbound lanes of the Southfield Freeway.
Beginning at around 12:15 a.m., MSP said several 9-1-1 callers reported the wrong-way driver, going northbound in the southbound lanes.
As troopers were heading to the location, a head-on crash was reported near Joy Road.
Police said a passenger in the car the wrong-way driver crashed into suffered a lower body injury and was taken to a hospital.
The wrong way driver was arrested on scene for drunk driving.
“This driver risked the lives of other drivers and road users when they got behind the wheel drunk.” said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw. “There are just too many ways to get around if you decide to drink. Getting behind the wheel impaired is unacceptable.”
The freeway was closed for the on-scene investigation, but has since reopened.
No names were released.
