(WWJ) Michigan State Police are investigating a deadly crash involving a wrong-way driver, early Saturday morning on I-96.
At around 3:15 a.m., police say 911 calls started coming in about a driver traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the freeway.
A short time later, there was a call about a crash on eastbound I-96 at Meyers.
A preliminary investigation by MSP found that the wrong-way driver of a car hit a motorcycle, and the motorcycle caught fire.
A woman who was a passenger on the bike was killed on impact, police said. The motorcycle driver was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The 33-year-old man who was driving the car was treated for minor injuries and then taken to the Detroit Detention Center.
MSP said investigators suspect that the man, who has a prior alcohol offense, was drunk when he caused the crash.
Expected charges are pending as the investigation continues.
No names were immediately released.
