(WWJ) On a freezing cold Friday, listeners like you — along with kind volunteers and radio station staff — all banded together to bring warmth for Michigan families in need.
Once again our generous listeners opened their heart and their wallets, helping WWJ Newsradio 950 raise $347,660 in heating assistance in our 20th Annual Winter Survival Radiothon for THAW, The Heat and Warmth Fund.
What's it all about? Some people might not think twice about turning up their thermostat a few degrees. Unfortunately, thousands of families all across Michigan cannot even afford to heat their homes or keep the lights on. Some have even faced the situation of choosing between warmth or providing food and medication for their families.
To help provide assistance to families facing such a crisis, WWJ and THAW partner for this annual fundraising event.
For the past few years — since the beginning of the pandemic — more Michiganders have been staying at home, which means increased utility usage and higher bills. And this past year has been an especially tough year for many with the price of groceries and other essentials sky-high.
Here's the good news: THAW continues to accept donations year-round! Just because the 2023 radiothon has come to a close, it does not mean it's too late to give.

THAW assists families in need by preventing utility shut-offs, providing fuel or restoring services. They also help seniors on a fixed income and others who are struggling replace a broken furnace or other essential appliance. You can feel good about giving, because over 90% of all money raised by THAW goes directly to those in need, and THAW’s utility partners match every dollar that THAW raises so that $1 becomes $2 in energy assistance
