FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) – Zvi Levran, accused of sexually assaulting young boys while working as a volunteer youth hockey doctor in Metro Detroit, has been ordered to trial.

Judge James Brady of the 47th District Court on Tuesday determined the case against Levran, which involves abuse dating back two decades, will proceed to trial. Levran is a 66-year-old Farmington Hills resident charged with multiple counts of sexual assault.

Levran, 66, is accused of multiple counts of sexual assault across two different district courts. He was bound over on 22 counts pending in Farmington Hills District Court, while additional charges remain pending against Levran in the 48th District Court in Bloomfield Hills.

He remains held at the Oakland County Jail.

Prosecutors argued Levran used his position as a youth hockey doctor and “trusted adult” to sexually abuse the young men. Last fall Levran was arrested after a 19-year-old man filed a criminal complaint following a medical exam at the doctor’s home in Farmington Hills on Oct. 18. Prosecutors allege Levran sexually assaulted the patient during the exam.

Investigators say Levran assaulted the players during various exams and at yoga and skating events put on by the doctor. Victims were from Farmington Hills, Livonia, Novi and West Bloomfield. Levran is facing a similar charge in West Bloomfield.

At the time of his arrest officials said there was reason to believe there are more victims of Levran. Eventually, more came forward and more charges were filed.

On Tuesday the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office renewed calls for potential victims to come forward.

“If you or someone you know were subjected to inappropriate treatment by this defendant, please call the Farmington Hills Police tip line at 248-871-2610,” a press release from the prosecutor’s office said.

“I applaud the survivors who came forward in this case and testified. I hope their bravery will inspire others to come forward. My office will continue to prosecute the accused and fight for justice for all survivors,” said Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald.

McDonald urges anyone struggling with sexual abuse to “know that you are not alone, it is not your fault, and help is available.”
