ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WWJ) -- It’s officially fall and a seasonal favorite in metro Detroit is about to make its return.
Zoo Boo will be back at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak next month, running three weekends in October. Officials say all 125 acres of the zoo will be open for its annual “merry-not-scary” Halloween celebration.
Zoo Boo, presented by Beaumont Children’s, will be held Oct. 8-10, 15-17 and 22-24, from 2 to 6 p.m., rain or shine. The zoo will close at 1 p.m. those days to prepare for the event.
There will be family-friendly favorites from past Zoo Boo events, including extreme pumpkin carving, mesmerizing mimes, a flash mob, superhero reenactments, a joking juggler and the live musical stage show Zoo Boo Revue.
Visitors, young and old, are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes as they visit all the zoo’s animals, while stopping for photo opportunities and educational activities.
While it’s not a trick-or-treating event, all children will receive a goodie bag.
Tickets for Zoo Boo, which must be purchased in advance, range from $13 to $19, based on day and time. Children younger than 2 years old are admitted for free.
Pre-sale time slots for Zoo Boo are 2 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3 p.m. 3:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Parking is $8 per car for all members and guests. Walk-up tickets will not be sold at the gate.
Zoo Boo guests can take a one-way ride on the Tauber Family Railroad for $3 per person or go for a spin on the Carousel, sponsored by Meijer, for $3 per person.
