More than half of voters believe former President Donald Trump should be kept off 2024 ballots if he's convicted in at least one of the four criminal cases against him.

According to a new poll by NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ, 57% support disqualifying the 2024 Republican presidential primary frontrunner upon conviction.

Among Democrats, 85% back Trump's disqualification upon conviction of a crime, while only 29% of Republicans said the same.

Meantime, more than 70% of GOP respondents said a conviction in "one or more" of the former president's criminal cases would not impact their vote, compared to 17.4% who said it would.

"It will be interesting to see what happens to that number over the next three or four months as the court cases actually make it to the trial stage and more comes out or doesn't come out," Scott Tranter, director of data science at Decision Desk HQ, told NewsNation.

Trump is currently facing a total of 91 felony counts across four separate criminal cases: one involving alleged hush money payments he made to a porn actress in 2016, one involving his handling of classified documents after his presidency, and two for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. The charges carry a combined maximum prison term of to 712 years and six months.

According to the poll, Trump is likely to get the GOP nomination with a 50-point lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley. Among GOP voters, 60% support Trump, 11% support DeSantis, 10% support Haley, 6% support biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and 3% support former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the poll shows.

Nearly two-thirds of Republicans (64%) think Trump is the best candidate for the economy, versus 8% who feel the same way about DeSantis and 7.5% who prefer Haley. Another 61% think Trump is the best candidate for handling US foreign policy, compared to 13% who say the same about Haley and 7.7% who prefer DeSantis, according to the poll.

If Trump was not on the ballot, 36% of GOP voters said their second choice would be DeSantis, followed by 14.9% who would vote for Ramaswamy, 13.5% who would vote for Haley and 3.9% who would vote for Christie, the poll shows.
