WAYNE, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Two people — and a pair of cats — are recovering after the small plane the man was operating crashed on the golf course at Saint David's Country Club in Wayne on Wednesday afternoon.
Officials say the plane touched down at the 15th hole and then crashed into a tree around 3:30 p.m. A 69-year-old woman on board with her 70-year-old husband, who was piloting the plane, sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.
Tredyffrin Township Police Chief Mike Beaty said golfers who were on the course at the time came to their aid when the plane went down.
"As they went up to the plane, they were able to help open the doors, which were still accessible. The plane did land on the right side up right next to the bank of trees near the maintenance building. They were able to help those people walk out of the plane," Beaty said.
“The pilot did as good of a job as he could given the situation, and it was nice having the people so close to help them out.”
They are both recovering at Paoli Hospital. Two cats on board were able to make it out all right, too.

Officials say the flight originated in Fort Myers, Florida, and made a stop in South Carolina to refuel. Then, investigators say, the plane lost power about 10 miles short of their final destination in Blue Bell.
The FAA and NTSB are now taking over the investigation.
