A St. Paul, Minnesota native and her husband have been killed during the war in Israel.

Cindy Flash, 67, and her Israeli Husband Igal live along the Gaza Strip and hadn't been heard from since Saturday's surprise attack.

Flash worked at a local college in southern Israel and advocated for peace in Israel, particularly Palestinian rights.

Her daughter Keren tells USA Today Friday that they now know Hamas militants broke into her parent's safe room last weekend and murdered both of them.

"They are breaking down the safe room door," Flash said in one of her final messages to her daughter Keren, 34, according to USA Today. "We need someone to come by the house right now."

The war has already claimed over 3,000 lives on both sides and sent tensions soaring across the region. Israel has traded fire in recent days with Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group, sparking fears of an ever wider conflict, though that frontier is currently calm.
