(WWJ) -- The Center for Disease Control has launched an investigation following the death a Michigan woman who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
WWJ’s Charlie Langton reports that 35-year-old Annie VanGeest of Ionia County received the one-dose vaccine on April 8 -- five days before the CDC and FDA temporarily paused the shot.
She began having headaches about a week after getting the vaccine, and on April 19, she died due to bleeding in the brain.
Federal officials say that a total of 15 cases have been reported to VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System) from woman who have developed blood clots in their brain after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Out of the 8 million people who have received the J&J shot, that amounts to about .01%, and the 11-day suspension on the vaccine was lifted on April 23 after the FDA has determined its benefits outweighed its risks in individuals 18 years of age and older.
A statement from Johnson & Johnson says that they carefully review each report as part of an established practice.
Annie VanGeest’s death is currently being investigated.
