(WWJ) Less than three weeks from Election Day, a new poll shows Joe Biden maintains his edge over President Donald Trump in Michigan.
The latest EPIC-MRA poll released Wednesday shows Biden has a 9-point lead over Trump in the Great Lakes state — up from an 8-point lead in September.
EPIC-MRA president Bernie Porn pointed out that Biden is polling better than Hillary Clinton did four years ago.
"You have Biden near 50%, and in many other polls he is at or over 50%, as where our last poll before the election in 2016 had Hillary Clinton at 42%, and Donald Trump at 38%," Porn told WWJ's Dan Jenkins. "And given that she had dropped down to only a 3-point lead...I knew at that time that things were going to be at least flexible in terms of the level of support she would get."
Porn said 51% of the 600 Michiganders polled said they are voting by absentee ballot, while 46% said they planned to go to the polls in person.
Around 34% of those polled said they were Conservative, 36% said Moderate, and 20% said they were Liberal.
If these numbers truly reflect how Michiganders plan to vote, and Biden is leading. does Trump have time to close the gap before Election Day?
"I imagine it may tighten up, but I do not see Donald Trump able to do what he did in 2016. There's too much of a hill to climb," Porn said.
"And, not only that, nationally he is trying to defend himself in states that are pretty red. It's getting close in Texas, and it's getting close in Iowa."
A couple of other interesting results from the poll:
When asked about abortion. 56% of respondents said they were pro-choice - women have the right to an abortion, 36% said they were pro-life - against abortions except to save life of mother, and 8% were undecided or refused to answer.
When asked: "Overall, would you say that things in the country are generally headed in the right direction, or, have things pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track?", 30% said right direction, 59% said wrong track, and 11% were undecided or refused to answer.
The poll was conducted by live interviews by phone, with 50% of the calls to cell phones, Oct. 8 through Oct. 12. The poll has a margin of error of ±4.0%.
The survey was conducted after President Trump's COVID-19 diagnosis.
