Gov. Whitmer slated to give COVID-19 update at 6 p.m; expected to announce new restrictions

(WWJ) Governor Gretchen Whitmer is slated to hold a press conference Sunday at 6 p.m. to provide an update on the pandemic across Michigan, as well as make a special announcement about efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The Detroit News reports her announcement will likely include new restrictions.


She will be joined by Michigan Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Robert Gordon.

Michigan reported an all-time daily record on Friday of more than 8,500 new cases. As of Friday, nearly 2,870 adults were hospitalized statewide with a confirmed case of the virus; with 272 on ventilators. 21 children are in the hospital with a confirmed or suspected case of the virus.

The MDHHS reports nearly 8,000 COVID-19 deaths since March, with more than a quarter million cases.

Nearly 139,000 Michiganders are considered recovered from the virus after living one month since testing positive for the disease.
