A massive 1,600 pound female great white shark has been spotted in the Gulf of Mexico.
Shark trackers are closely monitoring the shark, named Miss Costa, off the coast of the Florida Panhandle south of Panama City.
According to OCEREACH, the shark was last spotted in the Gulf in mid-March and has been working her way north ever since. The animal may be up to 15 feet long.
Shark experts say sightings of a great white not all that unusual in Gulf waters off the coast of Galveston.
In fact, they expect a lot more of the sharks get into the gulf than we're aware of.
Great whites tend to follow the food and prefer cooler water temperatures. They're usually only tracked in the Gulf of Mexico from December through July.
There have been no known great white shark attacks in the Gulf either.
Miss Costa has a Twitter page. You can follow her journey through the Gulf here.
