2 dead, including child, 2 more injured, in Marrero shooting

A seven-year-old girl is dead, along with an adult man, in a shooting in a house in Marrero. Another child and adult are in the hospital with gunshot wounds.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto says one suspect, 23-year-old Everette Campbell, is in custody; and they are looking for 22-year-old Malik McGinnis.

The sheriff told WWL's Tommy Tucker that an argument in the home in the 3000 block of Sorbonne Drive turned deadly late last night.

"I believe it was a person that they knew that they got into an argument with," Sheriff Lopinto said. "It was not a home invasion, it was not necessarily a drug deal, it was a person that was staying at their residence."

The sheriff said the other two victims were hospitalized.

"They had an eleven year old juvenile male that was also shot in the arm and another adult that was shot in the abdomen," the sheriff said. "Both of those are stable now."

Anyone with information on McGinnis' whereabouts should call the sheriff's office's homicide section at (504) 354-5300 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111 or toll free at (877) 903-7867 (STOP). Callers to Crimestoppers do not have to leave their names and may be eligible for a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest and indictment.
