2019 will be the year of security. With the rise of data breaches, hacks and security vulnerabilities all rising, we need to take precautions.
The president of CommTech Industries, Darryl d'Aquin says as we kick off the new year, a big resolution would be to amp up your security online.
"Probably the single biggest thing that you can do with all of your accounts that manage any of your sensitive or personal information is to add what is called Multi-Factor Authentication or Dual-Factor Authentication," d'Aquin said. He says many people today are already using Multi-Factor Authentication with their banks.
"And it's typically where you'll get a text message with a code that authorizes a particular machine that you might be using to access the account," he added. "That really is a great way to add protection for your accounts."
It's also a good idea to change passwords. The longer the password, the better to provide that extra layer of security.
And how about those apps on our device that we never use anymore. Delete them?
"I think, more than just deleting the app, you may want to delete the account with that provider, if you are no longer using it, because many of these accounts are linked together with various other social media accounts and sometimes allow access to other personal information," d'Aquin said. "So it's a good time to maybe clean that stuff up as we are kicking off the new year."
