New Orleans Police report a late night armed robbery was thwarted when one of the intended victims produced a gun and shot the assailent.

It began before 11:00pm on Marigny Street between Urquhart and Villere Streets.

The suspect, wearing all black clothing, approached a couple and drew a gun.

He demanded the male's property.

After turning over his wallet and cellphone, the male victim produced his own firearm and two exchanged gunfire.

The male victim told police at least one of his bullets hit the armed robber.

"Suspect was struck by gunfire and fled," according to a police report.

The assailent made off with a cell phone and wallet.

It came minutes after a suspect matching the same description robbed two other victims, getting away with two cell phones and a wallet in the 1300 block of Governor Nicholls St.
