The crew at Blood, Sweat and Bonfires has created such memorable bonfire statues like a giant snapping turtle, crawfish, and pelican. But this years creation is going to be among its biggest ever!
A giant alligator made entirely of wood is going up on the River in St. James Parish. The 60-foot behemouth features a working head that turns side to side and clamping jaws ready to snap down on any errant fish, turtle or swimmer.
Blood, Sweat and Bonfires started planning the giant back in July. Construction commenced a few weeks ago and is finished, visable from the river and the parallel roadway in Garyville.
The wooden interpretation of a hungry beast will meet its fate on Christmas Eve, when it and other wooden creations atop the levee are set alight.
