Alligator sightings near the Bonnabel Boat Launch in Metairie recently have a group of men calling themselves the Bonnabel Social Club on the watch.
According to the group, alligator spottings around the area aren't anything new but are becoming much more frequent.
They say a 3-and-a-half footer, a 6-footer, and a 7-footer have all been seen at the same time.
One group member claims to have seen a 7-foot gator.
Dr. John Lopez with the Pontchartrain Basin Foundation estimated it to be 6- or 7-feet-long.
Dr. Lopez believes the gators are attracted to the fresh water from the Bonnet Carre spillway opening and the spillway may even be flushing some of them out
He the best thing to do is leave them alone and don't feed them. If they are putting people in danger, call Wildlife and Fisheries.
