Brossett, Williams at City Council meeting despite scandals

New Orleans City Council

The New Orleans City Council is met today, and two of the members facing current controversy were taking part in the meeting.

Councilman Jared Brossett returned after missing the last meeting saying he was going into rehab following his DWI arrest when he crashed his city issued vehicle.

Council President Jason Williams is also in attendance after his eleven count federal indictment on tax charges.

The council's agenda included approving the members of the Streets Renaming Commission.

Another item on the council agenda deals with "defund the police" cries from protesters.  The measure establishes the Jerome "Big Duck" Smith Justice System Advisory Committee to review the allocation of city resources across the criminal justice system and provide recommendations on investments and policy priorities.

Also, a resolution directs Entergy New Orleans to continue its suspension of service disconnects for nonpayment until August 1, 2020, due to the ongoing financial burdens of COVID-19.
