Cassidy: How much risk you want to take, and how much freedom you want to have

Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy gives WWL First News an update on the government’s efforts to reopen the economy, and proper coronavirus prevention methods.

While Governor John Bel Edwards urges people to wear a mask when they go out in public, Senator Cassidy says when it comes to deciding whether or not to wear a mask, people should use their own discretion.

“When I went to Home Depot a lot of people were wearing masks, some weren’t,” said Cassidy. “Some of them were obese which means they are at a higher risk of having problems should they be infected on the other hand they were staying six feet from everybody. So it is still kind of like figure it out on your own but there is some guidance you can do in your personal life, how much risk you want to take, and how much freedom you want to have.” He says people should balance their daily routines with all coronavirus prevention methods.

When it comes to the work the U.S. government is doing to help in the recovery, he says the U.S. House and Senate will not be in D.C. together when they discuss important ways to recover the economy from the coronavirus. Cassidy says it would be a health risk to have all 435 members of the House with all of the Senate members.

“Frankly, it is easier for the senate, there are only one hundred of us and we have bigger offices so it is not as cramped we have the ability to come back and maintain social distancing and I’m sure people will be wearing masks when they are in public,” said Cassidy.
