It is Cinco de Mayo and today will look a little different from previous year celebrations. No more block parties filled with people drinking imported beer and eating enchiladas, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

The NOPD sent a tweet reminding people how to celebrate safely amid the COVID-19 outbreak. The tweet encourages people to celebrate at home and to have no gatherings outside the immediate household. It also emphasized the importance of social distancing and wearing a mask while still having fun during the Mexican holiday.

Mexican and South-American restaurants across New Orleans would be filled with thick crowds of people pouring out into the streets, drinking cold margaritas, eating authentic foods, and enjoying live music. But this year will look very different as coronavirus measures have shuttered many restaurants and the city is enforcing its stay-at-home orders.

Some local restaurants are even getting creative with their celebrations. Felipe's Taqueria will live stream six music performances on their Facebook page for people celebrating Cinco de Mayo at home.
