The Cantrell administration is getting a cash infusion from a number foundations to create a plan to help people find work.
The $150-thousand dollars to get the plan going comes from a partnership among the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Ballmer Group and Bloomberg Philanthropies. With a $12-million endowment, the partnership is donating to ten American cities to participate in new national initiative to identify, pilot, and measure the success of interventions to accelerate economic mobility for their residents.
The grant is more than just a blank check, as the 10 cities have already begun working with a team of advisors from the partnership.
Chief Administrative Officer Gilbert Montano, in a statement, talked about the requirements of this grant: “We know [the grant] will require data-and evidence-based decision-making and we are grateful to Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Ballmer Group for their support as we work to give young people a foot up on the career ladder.”
Bloomberg Philanthropies says New Orleans will develop and test a youth employment program over the next 18 months.
