City now says businesses MUST register to reopen, optional in rest of Louisiana

As Louisiana today enters Phase One of reopening from the coronavirus stay home order, businesses in the state are urged to register with the fire marshal.

The governor, however, says such registration is only mandatory for malls.  For all other businesses it is optional, but reccomended so officials can send updated information to owners and operators on changes to the guidelines.

Meanwhile city officials announced today that in New Orleans every business must register before reopening starting tomorrow.

The notice came in a text message sent from NOLAReady.

"Planning to open a Phase One eligible business in Orleans Parish? You must register with the State Fire Marshal at opensafely.la.gov."

WWL First News asked the mayor's office for confirmation.

"In New Orleans it is required," Press Secretary LaTonya Norton replied.
