Station Seven, the Sewage and Water Board's City Park-area pumping station with the responsibility of pumping out water for the mid-city, lost power this morning just as a fierce morning rain storm was at its height.
This particular pump receives electrical power from Entegy, according to an Advocate story. The other pumps at Station Seven are run from electricity generated by Sewerage and Water Board's Carrollton power plant.
The disabled pump usually moves 1000 cubic feet (7,480 gallons) of water per second and amounts for one-third of Station Seven's capacity.
At the time of the pumps failure, more than two-inches of rain fell between 5:15 and 6:15 am.
S&WB reports 115 of 120 pumps were operational as the storm got going late Saturday night through 6am Sunday when rainfall stopped.
The pump was offline about an hour.
The pumping system can sufficently remove water with rainfall up to two-inches-an-hour. Rainfall Sunday morning fell above two-inches, outstripping the pump systems ability and causing water to back up.
