Police say a suspect thought a man was after him in the French Quarter, so he shot him 18 times.

The NOPD says the man admitted he riddled the victim and his car with bullets.

"He also confessed to committing  very violent crimes... in Georgia and Alabama," Officer Juan Barnes said in an email.

Kwane Brown told investigators he may have killed an innocent bystander in Columbus, Georgia during a drug dispute.

He admitted then robbing a gas station in Mobile.

When he arrived in New Orleans Sunday morning, he went to the French Quarter.

Police say Brown told them he parked in the 100 block of Decatur Street, and another car pulled up behind him.  Fearing the driver was after him for the other crimes he committed, he began shooting into the car.

"At approximately 6:45 a.m., March 24, 2019, the 34-year-old victim was seated inside of a vehicle when he was shot multiple times. The victim drove to the 800 block of Iberville Street where he sought help. EMS transported the victim to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition."

Police apprehended Brown a short time later, in the 100 block of Convention Center Boulevard.

"NOPD Sergeant Sam Dupre, who was working a French Quarter Task Force detail, identified and apprehended Brown as the perpetrator in this incident. LSP recovered a Glock 9mm with an extended magazine on scene. Brown was charged with attempted 1st degree murder."

Detectives are now in contact with agencies in Georgia and Alabama and assisting them in furthering their investigations.
