The New Orleans City Council Thursday is considering a change to the law that currently bans the wearing of a mask in public.
Current law "prohibits the public use of masks or facial disguises."
The new change to the law would "create an express exception for masks and facial coverings intended to prevent the transmission of disease."
It comes as city, state and federal health officials have reccommended everyone cover their mouths and noses while in public to control the spread of COVID-19.
There are no reports that the current law kept anyone from wearing a mask. The mayor and city council have all been seen wearing masks in public.
