UPDATE: The Southbound Causeway is now open after authorities pulled the carjacking suspect who jumped into Lake Pontchartrain this morning.
According to Causeway general manager Carlton Dufruchou, Mandeville police alerted Causeway police about the suspect as he approached the bridge. The suspect's vehicle, which was reportedly stolen, ran out of gas near mile marker 10. According to Dufruchou, the suspect jump off the bridge when Causeway police approached him.
Dufruchou says the suspect was initially reluctant to grab onto the rescue rings authorities used to pull him back to the bridge, but the suspect ultimately grabbed the device and allowed police to pull him to safety.

Pontchartrain Causeway officials say the southbound Causeway is closed after someone driving a stolen car jumped off the bridge. Crews are working to pull that driver from the water, necessitating the closure.
