Hurricane Dorian has unleashed fury on the Bahamas with up to 30 inches of rain, wind gusts over 200 miles per hour and water 18 to 23 feet above normal.
The National Hurricane Center says it is barely moving as it continues to attack the islands.
A gradual drift is expected by tomorrow.
"Maximum sustained winds are near 155 mph (250 km/h) with higher gusts. Dorian is an extremely dangerous category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Although gradual weakening is forecast, Dorian is expected to remain a powerful hurricane during the next couple of days."
The challenge for coastal communities from Florida to Virginia is the fact that the forecast track is so close to the coast, but may be just far enough to avoid the worst of the impacts. If the track shifts any to the west, some land areas could be devastated... any to the east and they may feel next to now impact.
That has some cities and counties calling for evacuations amid the uncertainty.
